CATALYTIC CONVERTERS
A catalytic converter is an emissions control device that converts toxic pollutants in exhaust gas into less toxic pollutants by oxidation and reduction reactions. It’s mission is to convert poisonous gasses like nitric oxide into nitrogen and oxygen and carbon monoxide into carbon dioxide which are harmless.
Today every single car must have a catalyst converter. The demand is growing and the resources needed for producing car catalyst converters are shrinking. The only way to keep up with the growing demand on those resources and protect our planet from destruction is recycling them. Platinium group metals (PGMs): Platinium, Palladium and Rhodium are the key factors in the game. Mining of precious metals is a very expensive and energy consuming process. In order to get 1 kg of platinium it must be extracted 150 tonnes of platinium ore which is minned from about 1000 meter under surface. The use of energy for such a process is incredibly high. The rusult of this is closing down of some precious metals mineries in the world because the cost of mining and extracting them is higher than the value of precious metals on the market. Today the market prices of precious metals are incredibly low which is probably artificially dumped by speculants from the Wall Street. We hope the situation will change soon and the prices will get back to normal.
